Compacting the clay used to line a lake completely removes the air from it. This leaves a tightly packed, natural and environmentally friendly watertight barrier which is perfect for lakes and the wildlife.

Once properly compacted and installed, the clay lining remains waterproof indefinitely as long as it remains covered by water.

It is important that clay lined ponds are filled quickly after construction and kept topped up at all times. If the water level is allowed to drop the exposed clay will dry out, crack and eventually leak.
